About the 1 minute typing test
The 1 minute typing test is the standard way to measure typing speed. Type for sixty seconds and see your words per minute (WPM), your accuracy, your raw speed and a consistency score. It is free and needs no signup.
How the 1 minute typing test works
- The 60 second timer starts with your first key press.
- Type the words as shown. Correct characters count toward your WPM, mistakes lower your accuracy.
- When time is up you see your WPM, accuracy, raw WPM, consistency and a speed graph. Your personal best is saved in your browser.
One minute is long enough to smooth out a slow start, and short enough that most people can stay focused. That is why job ads and typing courses quote speeds per minute. If you only take one test, take this one. Use the 30 second test for a quick check and the 3 minute test to see how well you hold your speed.

Tips for a better 1 minute score
- Fix accuracy first. A score of 95% accuracy at 45 WPM is better than 80% at 55 WPM, because errors cost time.
- Keep a steady pace. The consistency score shows how even your speed was.
- Take the same test once a week and watch your personal best on the Progress tab.
Typing options
Choose a difficulty above: Basic (short common words), Pro (all common words with capitals and punctuation) or Advanced (long words, numbers and symbols). Change the length with the Change length button, or use another test: 30 second typing test · 3 minute typing test · 5 minute typing test.

What is a good score on a 1 minute typing test?
About 40 WPM is average. 60 WPM is good for office work, and 80 WPM or more is fast. Aim for at least 95% accuracy.
How is WPM calculated in the 1 minute test?
Every 5 correct characters count as one word. Your WPM is the number of correct characters divided by 5. Because the test lasts one minute, that is also your WPM. Mistakes are not counted as correct characters.
What is the difference between WPM and raw WPM?
Raw WPM counts every key you pressed. WPM counts only the correct characters. If the two numbers are far apart, you are making many mistakes.
Does the test save my results?
Your best scores and history are saved only in your own browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server. You can delete the saved data on the Progress tab.
